Hundreds of Activists Will Gather in Washington, DC to Make Family Planning a Priority, April 10-14

April 8, 2015 by Janina Winkler

PRLog – April 7, 2015 – WASHINGTON — Two-hundred activists will gather in Washington, DC from Friday, April 10 to Tuesday, April 14 in support of universal access to voluntary family planning as part of Population Connection’s annual advocacy event, Capitol Hill Days (http://www.populationconnection.org/ advocate/capitol- hill-days-2015/) .

The activists—many of whom are college students—will travel from across the U.S. to our nation’s capital to attend information sessions, participate in advocacy training, and lobby on Capitol Hill. During the five-day event attendees will gain insight into the importance of women’s empowerment and directly lobby their representatives for a greater U.S. investment in international family planning.

This year’s Capitol Hill Days will bring together participants from 31 states and campuses such as Ohio State University, UNC Chapel Hill, and University of Denver. The diverse group of activists will have the opportunity to learn about pressing family planning challenges like the Helms Amendment and Global Gag Rule from experts at Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and the National Women’s Law Center.

Capitol Hill Days 2015 is sure to inspire the next generation of family planning activists in their fight for reproductive freedom and a healthy and sustainable global population.

“Population Connection is encouraged and humbled by the commitment that these young activists bring to our cause,” said John Seager, the president of Population Connection and its political arm Population Connection Action Fund. “There will be more participants than ever before at this year’s Capitol Hill Days, and we are excited to provide them with the information and tools needed to advocate for a more viable and just world.”
