Anyone who wants to type on the Samsung Gear S3 watch can, with Modality, the typing system based on letter groupings to keep everything contained and easy to use.
WICHITA, Kan. – Dec. 12, 2016 – PRLog — On November 17, Joyful Machines released its typing system – Modality – for Samsung Gear S3 watches. Modality will also be available for Samsung Gear S2 watches when the 2.3.2 Gear update becomes available.
Joyful Machines’ CEO Ian Hanson and CTO Paul Peloquin joined forces one year ago and began work to solve a problem: typing on phones is awkward at best because the standard keyboard (known as QWERTY for the first letters of the top row) is made for ten-finger typing. But more so, a QWERTY keyboard has inherent difficulties on a tablet since the letters and spacings get weird, and it is nearly impossible to put that style keyboard on a watch.
The Modality solution utilizes modern technology by working in letter groupings and allowing users to select words as opposed to typing individual letters. The letters are grouped logically in four sections: up is Vowels + YR, Down is Sweep the weird letters down (SWP XZV), Left is “Ugh when Men Doubt” (GH, MN, DBT), and right is Joyful Quick right (JFL QCK).
The user first selects a group and then the first letter. Afterward, the user selects groups until the word shows up for selection. The word often within 3-4 taps.
Ian Hanson came from 9 years of teaching English and Technology in the United States and China. He also works in graphic design and has animation training from Pixar and Dreamworks animators. Paul Peloquin was busy winning a video game contest in high school, and more recently has developed for Smart TV along with working in a dozen other languages.
Joyful Machines is more than a typing company: it is dedicated to providing useful and fun technology for a variety of uses. The plan is to produce 3-5 typing solutions over the next 2-3 years before breaking into other technology solutions.
Modality is available for Android and iPhone, iPad, and Samsung Gear S3 watches.
