MetroCast activates Fiber to the Home in Starkville and Oxford, MS

August 9, 2014 by Janina Winkler

PRLog – Aug. 8, 2014 – STARKVILLE, Miss. — MetroCast Communications, the video, Internet and phone provider with offices in eight Mississippi communities, has announced that it has deployed advanced Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology in Starkville and Oxford, Mississippi and activated its first FTTH customers.  It is the first time residential FTTH has been activated in either Starkville or Oxford.

The FTTH technology has been deployed by MetroCast at the Cottages at Creekside (located at the intersection of Old West Point Road and E. Garrard Road in Starkville) and at The Preserve at Oxford Commons (located off Old Highway 7, about a mile from downtown Oxford).

FTTH is a pure, 100% fiber-optic connection that is made directly to the home. The FTTH technology converts data to laser light waves, which are then transmitted over thin strands of glass.  FTTH provides capacity for the delivery of advanced products and services, since vast amounts of data can be carried over great distances with high levels of speed and reliability.

Earlier this spring, MetroCast deployed the FTTH technology for its customers in Carthage, Mississippi. MetroCast, which has operations in nine states, also has deployed FTTH in its Maryland and Virginia service areas.

“We are excited to bring this advanced technology to these residents in Starkville and Oxford,” said MetroCast Regional General Manager, Rick Ferrall. “Fiber to the Home will provide high levels of reliability and will ensure that residents have access to high quality video, Internet and phone services, backed with first-rate customer service and technical support.”
